Job description

MCS Group is recruiting a Senior Engineer - System Operations for our client in Belfast.

Play a key role in keeping Northern Ireland's electricity system secure while supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

As a Senior Engineer in System Operations, you will contribute to planning and operational engineering activities that ensure the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. This includes power system analysis, supporting outages and maintenance, developing operational policies, and enabling the integration of new technologies onto the grid.

You’ll work closely with control room colleagues and a wide range of stakeholders to manage system security, support audits and compliance, and deliver high‑quality technical outputs that meet regulatory and operational requirements.

Essential Criteria
  • Engineering degree (or equivalent) with at least 4 years' experience
  • Experience analysing large volumes of technical data
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
  • Awareness of the NI Transmission System and experience in a regulatory environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills, commercial awareness and delivery focus
  • Proficiency in MS Office
Desirable
  • Experience in power system operations or a similar field
  • Experience with transient or electromagnetic transient analysis
  • Knowledge of the All-Island system and Single Electricity Market
