Job description

Seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Senior Data Scientist based anywhere in or adjacent to European time zones to work on our innovative social intelligence & text analytics platform, listening247. Aspects of this job include management of data curation, automated data collection pipelines, language model development, design and implementation of systems to gather and process large-scale textual datasets, train and fine-tune machine learning models (including SLMS and LLMs), contribute to the continuous improvement of our AI products, and demonstrate strong leadership skills by guiding team members and driving key projects forward.

• At least 6 years of experience in a machine learning-related role or background.
• Experience in training classical machine learning models or transformers, such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest or BERT, trained using the Gold Standard.
• Proven experience implementing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in Python is required.
• Strong track record in applying machine learning techniques, especially on imbalanced datasets.
• Hands-on experience with ML applications in sentiment analysis and topic modelling.
• Familiarity with modern ML/DL/NLP libraries and frameworks: Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, NLTK, spaCy, Transformers, Dash, etc.
• Knowledge of NLP techniques and state-of-the-art models such as BERT, DistilBERT, and other transformer-based architectures.
• Knowledge of Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) or Reinforcement Learning (RL) for large language models.
• Experience in fine-tuning or reinforcement learning is strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure e.g. AWS and Google Cloud.
• Solid understanding of data workflows, including structured and unstructured data collection, cleaning, and transformation.
• At least a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering.
• Background in digital image processing or computer vision will be considered an advantage.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Java will be considered an advantage.
• Experience working with speech-to-text (S2T) technologies will be considered an advantage.
• Prior experience in scalable deployment solutions will be considered an advantage.

Leadership Requirements:

• Strong organisational and time-management skills within an agile development environment.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems in fast-paced, dynamic settings with limited oversight.
• Provide technical leadership to the Data Science team, guiding project direction, architecture decisions, and best practices.
• Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
• Act as the lead on key ML initiatives, owning end-to-end project delivery from problem definition to production deployment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to align ML efforts with strategic goals.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning models and software prototypes across text and image modalities.
• Train, validate, and systematically test algorithms on large-scale, real-world text and image datasets.
• Develop and integrate sentiment, semantic, and topic analysis models to meet defined accuracy and performance benchmarks.
• Build and maintain automated data pipelines for gathering, cleaning, and curating high-quality training datasets.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers and researchers to deliver applied solutions in areas such as sentiment detection, emotion analysis, topic extraction, social propagation, and influence modelling.
• Arrange seamless integration of validated algorithms with internal platforms and external data systems.
• Maintain active collaboration and knowledge exchange with external partners and research collaborators.
• Document model performance, system behaviour, and incorporate user and stakeholder feedback into iterative improvements.
• Ensure models are robust, explainable, and maintainable across deployment environments.
• Contribute to Agile planning, code reviews, and continuous integration workflows.
• Perform other assigned tasks in support of team goals and project delivery.
