Senior Commercial Manager – South West and Wales Region

Overview

Role description: As a Senior Cost Consultant within our PM/CM team you will provide cost and commercial management services for a range of technically complex infrastructure projects. You will own cost verification exercises and report results in a timely manner. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams, clients, external contractors, consultants and other stakeholders, as well as managing programme, obtaining information, and factually formulating audit findings and recommendations.

Role accountabilities
  • Coach and mentor team members to share knowledge, increase skill levels, and improve service delivery standards.
  • Work within established financial systems and budgets to produce reports and forecasts, track budgets, and oversee costing and variances to manage cost variables effectively.
  • Detailed evaluation of cost data against contractual/commercial principles.
  • Manage and process Change in accordance with contract terms.
  • Detailed cost verification and payroll & employment contract audits.
  • Ensure resources and budgets are utilised effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Provide advice to colleagues on risk management and compliance processes to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Present project risks and issues to senior managers to mitigate adverse impacts.
  • Analyse and review data and documents, identifying trends and themes to provide actionable recommendations for cost and commercial management decision-making.
  • Collaborate across teams to support project delivery, applying technical knowledge to meet cost expectations and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Provide technical advice to senior management on cost and commercial management issues, offering solutions and sharing knowledge to deliver results.
  • Production of close-out reports and working papers.
  • Presentation of outputs and recommendations to clients and their supply chain.
  • Travel to different sites/locations as required to meet stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience

Experience in the rail or highways sector is desirable along with a working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts and a proven track-record of commercial input into the delivery of infrastructure projects.

Degree qualified in either a Quantity Surveying or similar background. Professional Membership such as MRICS would be advantageous however, not essential, as professional advancement will be supported.

A successful record of working closely with external stakeholders to build strong client relationships.

The successful candidate shall ideally:

  • Have an understanding of different cost systems and associated processes (Oracle etc).
  • Experience in identifying and assessing risks in project environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including a wide understanding of Excel functions.
  • Beginner to Intermediate Power BI skills, not essential but desirable.
  • Be a CSCS cardholder.
  • Knowledge and competence in the use of target cost and cost reimbursable construction contracts.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work on own initiative.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with a range of individuals at varying levels of seniority.
  • The ability to understand, manage and interpret complex data sets from a range of sources.
  • The ability to grasp high level concepts and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Enjoys team working but is also comfortable working alone to tight deadlines.
