Join to apply for the Senior Civil Design Engineer (Water) role at RPS.

We are recruiting multiple Senior Civil Design Engineers (Water), ideally with wastewater networks and/or clean water networks experience, for a variety of major long-term water industry frameworks across the UK. RPS has been working with United Utilities and other water companies on AMP8 programmes, delivering resilient and sustainable water networks.

As part of a 10-year framework, RPS will drive programme optimisation, develop solutions, and select the preferred options based on best value, lowest carbon, and cost. Our mission is to deliver exceptional water services to foster a resilient, eco-friendly, and thriving Northwest.

About The Team

RPS Water Consulting is a team of engineers, modellers, and data analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development to our water industry clients. This is an evolving industry that requires innovation, dedication, and teamwork to meet client needs. We work with United Utilities and other major water companies across the UK, with a broad portfolio of long-term framework agreements. Our Water Consultancy has a range of AMP8 programmes leading into AMP9 and beyond.

About You

As a key member of the Water Consultancy business, your role as Senior Civil Design Engineer is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our water industry clients. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of water project experts on a range of capital delivery projects. You will have a substantial opportunity to contribute towards optioneering, outline, and detailed design across various frameworks, focusing on Wastewater Infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities
  • Supporting the Principal Engineer in managing projects and preparing conceptual, schematic, and detailed design of water and wastewater infrastructure assets including treatment works, pumping stations, sewers, and pumping mains.
  • Interacting with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
  • Creating outline and detailed design drawings, and associated construction-ready documentation.
  • Providing input into feasibility-level designs and optioneering assessments.
  • Generating concise and well-organised design calculations, reports, drawings, and other deliverables, including outline and detailed design drawings and construction-ready documentation.
  • Collaborating with contractors, the supply chain, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentoring and supporting the professional development of junior team members.
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical design across multiple disciplines within project environments.
  • Effective motivation, influencing, and people management skills.
  • Good grasp of relevant British Standards, UK Industry Codes of Practice, and Water Specifications.
Qualifications
  • Preferably degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a relevant technical subject. Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Affiliation with a professional institution (IET, InstMC, CIWEM) or in the process of working towards membership and nearing application.
