Job description
School Crossing Patrol Officer – Wickford County Infant School

Permanent, Term Time – £13.00 per hour, Location: Wickford, Working style: Operational field-based worker.

Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations. We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual, approachable and enjoys engaging with the public.

Key details:

  • Schedule: 39 weeks of the academic year, 35 minutes between 08:25 – 09:00 in the morning and 35 minutes between 14:55 – 15:30 in the afternoon, approximately 5 hours 50 minutes per week.
  • Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired users of the crossing.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess risks at the crossing site, identify problems, and report to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failures to stop incidents and other incidents at the crossing.
  • Ensure all uniform and equipment is maintained properly and request replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
