Job description
School Crossing Patrol Officer – Kingston Primary School

Permanent, term time position. You will work 6hrs 15mins per week for the 39 weeks of the academic year, between 08:00 – 09:00 in the morning and 14:45 – 15:45 in the afternoon approximately, depending on site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Location: Benfleet (Kenneth Road entrance, Thundersley). Salary £13.00 per hour.

You will support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

You must be punctual, reliable, approachable, and enjoy engaging with the public.

Responsibilities
  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired individuals wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site, identify problems, and report defects to a supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing reports on accidents, failures to stop incidents, and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.

As part of employment with Essex County Council, a DBS check may be required. You will need to register with the DBS update service to keep your certificate up to date.
