About the Role

Referral to Admissions – Registered General Nurse (RGN) – Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week – Plymouth. Practice Plus Group is one of England’s largest independent providers of self‑pay, insured and NHS healthcare. Practice Plus Group Hospital Plymouth has a CQC Good rating and provides excellent healthcare to the population of Plymouth and the south west region, including Cornwall, Isles of Scilly and all of Devon. We are an elective surgical centre providing arthroplasty surgery, orthopaedics, general surgery, endoscopy and cataract surgery.

The clinical services include Outpatients, Day Surgery Unit, Inpatient Ward, Theatres, Endoscopy suite, Radiography, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy with care provided by a multidisciplinary team.

The Referral to Admissions Team (R2A) is a small team, based within the Out Patient Department, who are responsible for ensuring timely progression of patients from referral to PPG Plymouth through to admission for surgery.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • To ensure the safe pathway of each patient from the pre‑admission stage to surgery.
  • Understanding Practice Plus Group Plymouth set clinical criteria, and protocols to follow to adhere to policy.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal and written documentation.
  • Ensure pre‑operative 7‑day telephone calls are carried out, confirming patients fit for surgery to reduce clinical cancellations.
  • Organising clinical tasks such as, managing patients with MRSA/MSSA, stopping medication advice, skin‑care advice etc.
What We’ll Look For in You
  • Registered Nurse Level 1 qualification.
  • Evidence of continual professional development to meet relevant regulatory body requirements.
  • ILS.
  • Teaching qualification / ENB 998 or equivalent is desirable.
  • Previous experience in pre‑assessment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional nursing experience with demonstration of competent clinical judgement.
  • Good understanding of infection control and health & safety issues relating to theatre.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload when under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a changing environment.
  • Competent to use varied IT systems.
  • Excellent time management skills and able to work unsupervised.
  • Knowledge of when to refer patients to anaesthetist.
