Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting great experiences for young people? Help our Youth Programmes to shine by becoming our Quality Champion! We are looking for a group of volunteers who are willing to make a long‑term commitment to this role by providing independent scrutiny, quality assurance and a non‑policing perspective to our youth activities. This will ensure a safe experience for young people as well as evidence to demonstrate compliance with the National VPC Safe to Operate Standards. We hope to find a volunteer who can make approximately 5 visits every 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent scrutiny and quality assurance of youth programmes.
  • Make approximately 5 visits every three months.

Requirements of the Role

  • Ability to travel independently to an external location (e.g. school, college, public premises).
  • Comprehensively and sensitively assess youth programme activities (organisation, documentation and delivery) to identify risks and best practice.
  • Document findings in a timely manner using templates.

Skills Required

  • Experience or knowledge of youth activities and basic IT skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Experience of quality assurance is desirable.
  • Previous knowledge or experience of safeguarding and confidence to raise concerns.
  • Ability to document findings accurately and concisely using a template.

Recruitment Process

The closing date to submit applications is 13th January 2026. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to an in‑person interview. You should provide details of all employment, education and voluntary roles and information about any gaps. At least one reference capable of commenting on your interactions with children is required.

References and Vetting

Avon and Somerset Police are committed to safeguarding and require an enhanced DBS check if you are responsible for young people. Eligibility requires a five‑year checkable history in the UK, ideally including residence in the UK for the last three years.
