Job description

We have one of the largest horizontal infrastructure teams in the South Island working in the maintenance and Construction industry. The work we do strengthens the communities we work and play in, with several key long term maintenance contracts throughout the Canterbury region and a number of construction projects currently being completed throughout the South Island.

About the role | Ko te kaupapa

We are on the lookout for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Structures Construction team based in Rolleston. With a strong pipeline of projects across Canterbury, Waimakiriri and Hurunui Districts this is your chance to take on diverse and challenging work in a company that values innovation, teamwork, and professional growth.

In this role, you’ll lead and manage projects, either independently or under the guidance of a Project Manager, depending on the scale. Your focus will be on delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget, all while upholding our high-quality standards. Success in this role requires adaptability, problem-solving, and teamwork. You’ll play a key role in creating a positive and efficient work environment while ensuring smooth project execution in a fast-moving civil construction space.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Project Engineer role
  • A tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong understanding of construction standards, regulations, and best practices related to bridges, water treatment plants and pump stations
  • Construction management experience, specifically in reinforced concrete structures, retaining walls, bridges and piling works
  • A proven track record in managing and delivering successful projects
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards
  • The ability to think ahead, solve problems, and drive efficiency
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, working closely with clients, subcontractors, and team members
  • Experience contributing to tenders will be an advantage
