Production Supervisor

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK

Founded in 1954 in Los Angeles, CA, IPS has evolved from producing clear cements for aircraft canopies to operating multiple manufacturing plants and distribution centers worldwide, serving a diverse set of international markets.

Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing and leading all manufacturing activities across the site production infrastructure, encompassing all necessary processes and assembly units.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Objectives
  • Implement the site strategy for cost‑effective and efficient production.
  • Lead and coach associates on manufacturing techniques and methods to optimise production output.
  • Manage daily operations in assigned production areas and supervise related personnel.
  • Lead, manage, develop, and motivate the team, ensuring clear communication of organisational objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
Specific Responsibilities
Manufacturing / Production
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of Standard Operating Procedures, equipment, and resources.
  • Achieve manufacturing goals by communicating job expectations, planning, and monitoring.
  • Identify skills gaps and provide team development opportunities.
  • Ensure the availability and safe operation of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to address equipment issues promptly.
  • Ensure all Production Staff adhere to Company Employee Policies & Procedures and implement corrective actions if necessary.
  • Track and manage personnel working hours, overtime, holidays, and absences.
  • Ensure E1 is updated in a timely manner with Operation and Works Order completions.
Quality / Health & Safety
  • Promote and uphold Quality standards among all production staff.
  • Prioritise operational safety and act as the site ‘duty holder’ for lock‑up and alarm setting.
  • Compile observations or Corrective Actions Reports in response to stock inaccuracies or parts failures.
Collaboration with Other Departments
  • Planning: Discuss and resolve any issues, plan constraints, and proposed resolutions.
  • Customer Service: Coordinate relevant delivery targets, forecast demands, load configurations, and specific customer requirements.
  • Despatch: Work with the despatch team to coordinate loads and assemblies for on‑time delivery.
Other Duties
  • Perform reasonable other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Strong supervisory and communication skills.
  • Health and Safety awareness and ideally qualifications.
  • Proven leadership skills with over 5 years of experience in a quality‑focused production manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, able to interact effectively with individuals of varying skills and abilities.
  • Strong delegation skills, numerical proficiency, and good written and presentational skills, with an analytical approach to problem‑solving.
  • Understanding and adherence to company guidelines, policies, and procedures, with commercial awareness and cost control.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and independently, demonstrating self‑awareness, integrity, and emotional intelligence.
  • Good computer understanding and proficiency.
