You’ll learn on the job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

Why Join This Scheme?

This is your chance to launch a career at the heart of British broadcasting. Selected apprentices may work behind the scenes on exciting productions – from gripping dramas to live radio – gaining a recognised qualification while learning on the job. It’s an opportunity to widen your production knowledge while working on content that matters to millions.

To find out more about our schemes, register to join a webinar. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 10th December at 6pm; you may also view a recording on YouTube if you cannot attend.

Why Join the Team?

BBC Introducing is a network of creatives, producers, presenters, and music enthusiasts dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging musical talent across the UK. It provides a platform for new artists to showcase their work, starting with local radio shows and potentially progressing to national stations.

Your Key Responsibilities and Impact

As a Production Apprentice, you will:

  • Listen to new music in the uploader system
  • Script‑write for shows
  • Audio‑edit recordings
  • Assist with live radio shows in the studio
  • Support events and gigs
  • Work remotely on other BBC Introducing shows or at the BBC radio station where you are based

You’ll learn both on and off the job. In addition to placement experience, you will attend learning blocks with our learning provider, working toward an industry‑recognised Level 3 Production Assistant qualification. Learning blocks are a mixture of in‑person and virtual delivery.

For more information on the apprenticeship standard you will study, refer to the official apprenticeship handbook.

Your Skills and Eligibility

We look for potential rather than formal qualifications, so we assess your passion for music and radio, enthusiasm for delivering world‑class content, and willingness to learn. You may bring:

  • Passion for music and radio within the scene you are applying for
  • Activity in your local music scene (e.g., regular gig‑goer)
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn
  • Interest in supporting emerging artists and contributing to music discovery
  • Availability to work evenings and some weekends

This scheme is aimed at non‑graduates. If you hold a degree and are interested in similar roles at the BBC, consider other opportunities on our careers site.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship
  • Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme
  • No prior learning is required to apply

For candidates under 19 years old at the start date: you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or the Scottish equivalent. If not, you will need to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 before the end of your apprenticeship.

Ready to Apply?

Click ‘Apply Now’. You’ll create a candidate profile and answer a few questions – no CV or cover letter is required.

If you’re eligible, we’ll guide you through the next steps of the process and what to expect. You must live within commuting distance of the role’s base; for a different location, explore other adverts but apply to only one at a time.

Relocation support may be offered to a limited number of apprentices each year, subject to qualifying criteria, and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process.

This is a fixed‑term apprenticeship – your contract lasts for the duration of the scheme. During your apprenticeship you’ll receive career development, employability training, and networking opportunities to help you take your next step, whether at the BBC or elsewhere in the industry.
