Role description

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with previous experience working in a consultancy environment to join our Places Design Practice. In this role, you’ll be delivering elegant and efficient mechanical design solutions on exciting and challenging projects for key clients. We work with our clients worldwide to create, support, and enhance smart, safe, and sustainable places where people live, work, learn, and thrive. Places impact the quality of people’s lives – whether for new homes, shops, workplaces, schools, hospitals, manufacturing, research and development facilities, or data and distribution centres. People and communities thrive when the spaces in which they live, work, move, and play are designed and managed to best meet their needs.

Role accountabilities

You’ll be responsible for leading the mechanical design on larger projects, working collaboratively with other design disciplines to ensure the integration of the overall design or solution. You will need to present complex technical solutions to clients. As a Principal Engineer, you will manage project teams with up to 10 people, providing technical advice to team members to support them in their delivery on the project and in their professional development. You will manage the performance of team members and sub‑contractors, identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues.

Qualifications & Experience
  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Prior experience working in a consultancy environment
  • Ability to support and lead junior engineers
