Job description
Parish Nurse – 28 hours per week

Employer: Parish of Attercliffe and Darnall, Diocese of Sheffield Board of Finance.

Location: Attercliffe and Darnall, Sheffield.

Working pattern: Part‑time, flexible, up to 28 hours per week. Purpose funded by a grant from the National Church until the end of 2028 with potential review to 2031.

Salary: Pro rata salary £27,752.64 (£34,690.79 FTE). 10% employer contribution to pension. Generous holiday entitlement.

Closing date: Saturday 10 January (Noon). Shortlisting: W/C Monday 12 January. Interview: Wednesday 21 January.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a parish nursing service that integrates spiritual, physical, psychological, emotional and social health to the local community, with a focus on mental health and neuro‑diversity.
  • Integrate faith and health through holistic assessment of needs and support individuals in managing health issues, including collaborative care planning.
  • Deliver or facilitate health support in community and church locations, monitor and evaluate effectiveness, and adjust care plans as required.
  • Support risk assessment and develop screening opportunities for the local community.
  • Attend local meetings of health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide health education prioritising mental health needs and exploring the relationship between values, attitudes, lifestyle, faith and health for all ages.
  • Advocate for individuals, assist with referrals to health professionals and support agencies, and collaborate with health, social care, faith organisations and the voluntary sector.
  • Liaise with appropriate agencies to refer individuals to suitable resources and support groups.
  • Develop and lead support groups, source resources to enhance holistic care, and refer to external groups where appropriate.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support a volunteer team, ensuring volunteer agreements, disclosure and barring checks, and lead health team meetings.
  • Integrate faith and health in all care provision, providing spiritual care or referring to appropriate faith groups.
  • Attend team and line‑manager meetings, maintain accurate record keeping, and keep statistical information for the church and funders.
  • Manage parish nursing service resources, including financial management, and participate in professional development reviews.
  • Promote safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk, ensure confidentiality and data protection, and maintain Parish Nurse Quality Standards.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, attend PNMUK Community of Practice, and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and skills.
Qualifications & Training
  • Registered nurse with degree and experience in mental health challenges and neuro‑diversity (adult/child/learning disability).
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council registration, evidence of post‑registration education and training.
  • Completion or willingness to undertake the PNMUK Preparation for Parish Nursing Practice Course.
  • Regular member of a Christian denomination.
  • Community Nursing or Specialist Mental Health qualification, some theological or discipleship training.
Knowledge
  • High standard of clinical expertise and evidence‑based practice.
  • Leadership skills, ability to motivate staff and work independently or within a team.
  • Decision‑making, communication, IT, knowledge of Clinical Governance and Clinical Supervision.
  • Understanding of equal opportunities, multi‑cultural/multi‑faith context.
  • Knowledge of Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct and Personal Development Planning.
Experience
  • Working with diverse groups, families and community nursing.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Experience across all age groups.
  • Driving licence, ability to work with or without adaptations.
