Overview

Location: Base location either St Mary's Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG, or Building 4000, Lakeside, North Harbour, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 3EN. Across site travel may be required; frequency will be agreed locally.

Job Description

NHS Band 8a - Salary £55,690 - £62,682. Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Fixed Term Contract - 2 years. Closing Date: 31st October 2025.

Organisational Context

The OneEpr Programme exists to implement a single integrated electronic patient record (EPR) designed to improve patient outcomes and the experience of delivering care for our colleagues. The solution results from the shared vision and strategic goals of the following Trusts: Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IWT), Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU), Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), and University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust (UHS). The Trusts will collaborate with clinical and departmental experts alongside regional digital colleagues to procure and implement a joint EPR over the coming years.

Job Purpose

Play a leading senior technical role in providing effective, efficient, and fully integrated IT Infrastructure services that maximise availability and integrity for end-users and optimise the value gained from the Trust’s IT investment. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design multiple architectural models with varying complexities, ensuring business strategy and processes are translated into IT solutions.
  • Operate across organisation and technology silos to drive common approaches across the Trust enterprise architecture.
  • Act as champion for ITIL processes within departments, providing professional guidance and execution of Change, Release, Problem, Performance, and Availability Management.
  • Provide leadership in enterprise architecture technologies when working with external vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership in application performance monitoring, detect potential performance changes, and oversee action plans to ensure user quality of experience.
Job Summary
  • Contribute proactively to deliverables through individual and team effort; manage deliverables and control risks.
  • Support team members to achieve functionally relevant objectives with guidance and support as appropriate.
  • Ensure approved budgets are spent effectively in accordance with procedures.
  • Coordinate with Senior Professionals and related functions to avoid duplication and omissions.
  • Maintain effective communications with other roles involved in shared services as required.
  • Maintain specialist knowledge in Health Service areas contributing to the Trusts’ objectives.
  • Develop strategic links with external partners and stakeholders; secure necessary contribution for successful delivery.
  • Undertake horizon scanning for developments or opportunities relevant to Trust work.
  • Increase knowledge and skills within the Trust by documenting key learnings and supporting others’ development.
  • Disseminate knowledge through report writing and reviews, ensuring technical accuracy and responsible dissemination.
  • Position expertise as a resource inside and outside the Trust; form partnerships with government departments and national agencies.
  • Develop structures, systems, and ways of working to support sustainable development objectives (e.g., carbon reduction and waste minimisation) and encourage stakeholder engagement with change.
Qualifications
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent in computing or related field.
  • Technical accreditation in at least two of the following: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Virtualisation Expert (CVE), or Citrix Certified Architect (CCA).
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner Certificate.
