Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team of Medical Typists based at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester or Worthing Hospital providing typing support to medical/surgical specialties within the Trust.

Hours are flexible and can be discussed on interview. A minimum of 20hrs per week is a requirement for this post.

Main duties of the job

To support the Typing Pool to provide comprehensive, accurate, professional and efficient typing support to medical / surgical specialties within the Trust.

  • Type letters to patients, GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee following clinic attendance and other patient contacts.
  • Proof reading electronic system generated letters.
  • Highlight any investigations, outpatient appointments, results that are pending and require action from the Specialty Co-ordinator
  • Use the patient administration system for updating and extracting patient information on a daily basis
  • Use specialty databases for recording patient information/clinic activity for audit/survey purposes. These databases are ongoing and updated many times a day following patient activity. Regular audit of data is undertaken and decisions can then be made by the Consultant and Team as to appropriate service improvements
  • Undertake routine office duties including electronic note tracking, photocopying, scanning of documents onto electronic notes system (Evolve), filing of correspondence and results and maintenance of records when required
  • Be versatile and adaptable to the demands of the team. Work without supervision and take the initiative as and when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. If you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.

  • Type letters to patients, GPs medical staff and any other required addressee following clinic attendance and other patient contacts.
  • Proof reading electronic system generated letters.
  • Highlight any investigations, outpatient appointments, results that are pending and require action from the Specialty Admin Teams.
  • Use the patient administration system for updating and extracting patient information on a daily basis.
  • Undertake routine office duties including scanning to Evolve.
  • Be versatile and adaptable to the demands of the team. Work without supervision and take initiative when required.
  • Contribute towards design and amendment of new template letters as required.
  • Liaise with team members to ensure that any process changes run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Take urgent action on complaints, seeking advice from the Typing Pool Manager where necessary.
  • Assist and correctly advise new and existing colleagues.
