Job Summary

Male Actor (playing age 40–50s) wanted for Becoming Simone, a new three-hander comedy by Liz Garland. The role involves playing two characters in a full rehearsal process and three-date pilot tour. ACE‑funded, with future touring ambitions. Rehearsals March–April 2026.

Job Description

We are seeking a Male Actor (playing age 40-50s) to play two roles in Becoming Simone, a brand‑new three-hander comedy by writer Liz Garland. This is a paid opportunity.

Becoming Simone follows Claire, a forty‑something woman from Surrey who, despite her seemingly perfect life, feels disconnected from herself. On a whim, she leaves her marriage and comfortable home and travels to Hull, where she reinvents herself as Simone, a faux palm reader whose predictions prove uncannily accurate. Irreverent, heartfelt and comic, the play explores reinvention, identity and how we claim our lives back.

The actor will play two contrasting roles:

  • Mark (mid‑late 40s): Divorced, kind and likeable but socially awkward. Often says the wrong thing despite good intentions. Accent non‑specific.
  • Don (mid 60s): A larger‑than‑life antique dealer. Coarse, outspoken and non‑PC, with a strong sense of self. Yorkshire accent.

We are looking for an actor with strong comic instincts, the ability to play distinct characters, and confidence working in an intimate touring setting. The role requires flexibility, collaboration and an openness to developing the work during rehearsals.

The production has undergone several development stages and is now entering a full rehearsal process and three‑date pilot tour. The project is supported by Forest Forge Theatre Company, Mayflower Theatre, Wiltshire Creative, Stage Door Southampton and Hampshire Cultural Trust, and is funded by Arts Council England.

Rehearsal Dates

  • 13 March 10am-6pm at Forest Forge Theatre Company
  • 16-20 March, 10am-6pm at Mayflower Studios
  • 23-27 March, 10am-6pm at Wiltshire Creative
  • 9th April, Stage Door, Southampton
  • 10th April, Forest Arts Centre, New Forest

Fee:

  • Job Title: Male Actor Call Out - Becoming Simone

  • Role: Creative
  • Contract: Temporary
  • Location: South East South West
