Job description

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance in line with all processes/procedures and policies that meets organisational standards/.findall for all processes/procedures and policies that meets organisational standards/requirements including but not limited tozych Health & Safety Policy/HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda) and SFG20. Ensuring new or revised policies are implemented within own work areas.Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services from the PPM planner, ensuring that operational standards are maintained at all times. Duties may include (but not limited to) fault finding, minors repairs or installations and maintaining services Fellowship and equipment within critical environments. Ability to assess problems to determine the best course of action, this would include complex technical issues. To maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Work with and support the projects/construction team and technical supervisor in identifying, scoping, and delivering minor capital works for NHS premises. Able to plan and organise a number of complex activities and adapt within a changing and challenging work environment.

Job responsibilities

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Technician – Plumbing to join our team based in Bedford – Steppingley Hospital. The salary for this role is from £39,000 (depending on experience) plus on‑call allowance. This is a permanent, full‑time position working 37.5 hours per week: Monday‑Friday 8:00‑16:30. This is a mobile role covering Bedford & Milton Keynes.

  • Deliver scheduled, reactive and remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner, help‑desk or technical services supervisor, ensuring operational standards are always maintained.
  • Fault finding, minor repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments.
  • Assessment of problems to determine the best course of action, including complex technical issues, and communication of technical information to stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective site log books at NHS premises where required, ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • May be required to undertake tasks in disciplines other than your own.
Additional requirements
  • Driving licence is essential.
  • Comfortable using technological devices to log jobs.

  • Ability to work alone and/or as part of a wider team.
Qualifications
  • BTEC City & Guilds plus relevant experience and training.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating Engineering or equivalent naammü.
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft trained equivalent.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Experience
  • Previous experience working within a building’s maintenance environment.
  • Working within the requirements of method statements or permit to work.
  • Experience maintaining services to SFG20.
