Job description
Department/Division: Community Services Repartment - Recreation
Location: On-Site (Stratford, ON)
Duties: Under the supervision of the Lions Pool Supervisory team, Instruction/Guards willl plan, deliver and supervise safe, fun aquatics programs for all patrons. They will be knowldgable of pool regulations, city policies and procedures and provide exceptional customer service to all members of the community.

Work Performed:

  • Provide excellent customer service and project a positive image for the City of Stratford; being courteous and respectful to all members of the community
  • Plan and deliver recreational swims and lessons for assigned levels, preparing lesson plans and equipment in advance.
  • Take responsible action to protect the health and safety of all participants and patrons.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with staff and supervisors to support effective program delivery and safe pool operations.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Participate in perofrmance evaluations and skill assessments.
  • Support the completion of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks including routine maintenance and documentation.
  • Communicate with caregivers about participant progress in swim lessons and Supervisory team, when appropriate.
  • Enforce pool rules, respond to icnidents, and keep required documentation.
  • Provide coverage for shifts in the evnet of staff absences.
  • Perform other duties as signed
Qualifications:
  • Must be 15 years of age by June 1, 2026.
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (Pool), Swim Instructors.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED
  • Knowledge of Ontario Pool Regulations and operations of outdoor public pools is an asset.

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications

  • Additional certification is considered an asset, such as Lifesaving Instructor, Airway Management, etc.
  • Possess knowledge and understand risk mitigration and safety practices when in an outdoor pool setting.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; able to build positive relationships with coworkers, participants, and community members.
  • A satisfarctory Vulernable Sector Check (Criminial Record Check) is required for successful candidates.
  • Previous experience in cash handling, finances and daily reconcilation is considered an asset.
