ROLE: 12 Month FTC Learning Designer (VC by Netex)

Overall Aims
The Learning Designer plays a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality eLearning content across the full Virtual College by Netex portfolio, including the UK compliance catalogue. This role ensures that all digital learning content is pedagogically sound, engaging, and aligned with both learner needs and best practices in instructional design. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors, the Learning Designer is responsible for creating impactful, accessible, and effective learning experiences that enhance knowledge retention and support meaningful learner outcomes.
The day to day
- Designs high-quality, engaging eLearning content using sound instructional design principles and clear learning outcomes.
- Takes subject matter and confidently redesigns it into accessible and effective learning materials.
- Ensures all content is pedagogically sound, consistent, accessible, and meets internal quality standards through rigorous review.
- Continuously explores and applies emerging trends and evidence-based practices to enhance learning effectiveness.
- Applies accessibility and inclusion standards to ensure all learners can engage fully with digital content.
- Manages multiple projects efficiently, meeting deadlines and contributing to smooth content delivery through clear task ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Design and Content Development
- Design and storyboard digital learning modules using sound instructional design principles.
- Apply appropriate learning theories to create engaging, interactive, and learner centred content.
- Work with and update clear learning outcomes aligned to compliance requirements.
- Ensure consistency in tone, structure, and format across all content types.
- Work with graphic designers and multimedia developers to bring content to life.
Collaboration with Learning Design Consultant (LDC) and Catalogue Content Co-ordinator (CCC)
- Collaborate with LDC and CCC as needed to gather relevant and accurate information.
- Translate complex subject matter into accessible and meaningful learning content.
- Facilitate effective working relationships with LDC and CCC to maintain project momentum.
- Review and iterate content collaboratively with LDC and CCC during the development process.
Quality Assurance and Pedagogical Rigor
- Conduct internal reviews to ensure learning content meets pedagogical, accessibility, and editorial standards.
- Apply Virtual College by Netex learning design frameworks and templates consistently.
- Use peer review feedback to enhance content quality and instructional effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality assurance processes before content release.
- Regularly reflect on and improve design practice based on learner feedback and analytics.
Research and Innovation in Learning Design
- Stay up to date with trends and evidence-based practices in learning design and eLearning.
- Willing to use new formats, interaction types, and learning strategies in projects.
- Contribute to internal innovation projects or pilots exploring new learning approaches.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance design capabilities.
Content Accessibility and Inclusion
- Apply accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to all digital learning content.
- Use inclusive language, examples, and design practices to support diverse learner needs.
- Test content using assistive technologies and adapt as needed.
- Advocate for accessibility best practices within project teams and with SMEs.
- Support the continuous improvement of content inclusivity through training and peer feedback.
Project Delivery and Workflow Management
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines using agreed design and development timelines.
- Prioritise workload to meet deadlines while maintaining high content quality.
- Use project management tools (e.g., MS Planner, Jira, or similar) to track task progress.
- Provide timely updates to the Head of Product or Catalogue Production Manager on status and risks.
- Contribute to post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions.
About you:
- Experienced in designing for digital learning in Articulate, using Rise and Storyline is essential.
- Willing to learn how to use data and product tools to inform decisions.
