Our short stay Inpatient Unit (IPU) provides symptom, pain, and medication management for patients dealing with a life-limiting illness, as well as end-of-life care for those in the last days of their life. Our Listener volunteers will provide one-to-one emotional support to patients and family members on the IPU as identified by the nursing team.

Full Role Description

Main Tasks:

  • Support patients on a weekly schedule, with support provided as needed on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Liaise with the IPU team to identify patients who will benefit from listening support.
  • Provide one-to-one emotional support.
  • Record visit details in the IPU clipboard.
  • Provide feedback to IPU staff after visits.
  • Attend monthly group supervision at Grove House, St Albans.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.
