Background
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime, either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.
About the role
Dementia UK is seeking a Head of Admiral Nurse Academy to deliver strategic, operational and professional leadership for the Admiral Nurse Academy, ensuring its continued growth, innovation and excellence in supporting the professional development of Admiral Nurses. Working under the direction of the Deputy Director for Admiral Nurse Development, you will lead the development and delivery of the Academy’s vision, embedding a culture of learning, evidence-based practice and clinical excellence across Admiral Nursing.
You will be responsible for shaping and implementing the Academy’s strategic direction, ensuring that Admiral Nurses have access to sustainable learning pathways that progress their level of nursing practice from specialist to advanced. You’ll be responsible for budget management and people development, championing professional development and service improvement.
Your role will also entail overarching accountability for the design, delivery and evaluation of all Academy learning programmes. Through skilled facilitation and collaborative leadership, you will create opportunities for members of the Academy team to develop creative opportunities which encourage engagement of all Admiral Nurses in Academy activity. The post holder will act as a critical leader, ensuring that the Academy operates with robust governance.
To be successful in this position, you'll need to be a Registered Nurse with appropriate experience in dementia care, educated to or working towards a Master’s degree in a health and social care subject. You will have relevant teaching experience and a track record of supporting systemic practice development and quality improvement. You will be an expert practitioner with knowledge of dementia and therapeutic working with families and organisations with the ability to promote Admiral Nursing to a wide range of audiences.
Join us now and be part of a team dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
