Overview

Volunteer Vacancy: School Governor – Curriculum Standards. We are looking for an education specialist to take an active part in the development of a 5 year board strategy to deliver the highest quality Welsh medium education. This role supports leadership at board level and requires the ability to maintain momentum between full governing body meetings, while working closely with the Curriculum Standards subcommittee, the headteacher and SLT.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of a 5 year board strategy to deliver high quality Welsh medium education.
  • Lead with a leadership flair to sustain momentum between full governing body meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Standards subcommittee, headteacher and senior leadership team.
  • Participate in evening full governing body meetings (location: Ysgol y Berllan Deg, Circle Way East, Llanedeyrn, CF23 9LD).
Profile / Qualifications
  • Energetic and motivated education practitioner seeking to develop strategic skills and board level experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and drive long-term strategy.
  • Welsh language ability is not required, but would be advantageous.
About the School

Ysgol y Berllan Deg is a Welsh medium primary school with two classes per year and over 30 staff members. Established in 2003, the school operates from a modern building with extensive outdoor learning and play areas. It is led by a dedicated head teacher and long-serving staff, delivering a range of extracurricular activities. In July 2023 we became Cardiff’s first Welsh medium primary school to gain Sanctuary School accreditation for creating a welcoming environment where pupils, staff and communities understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary.

Governing Body Context

The governing body comprises 4 local authority appointed governors, 5 elected parent governors and 4 community governors. The meeting is attended by the headteacher, deputy head, a teaching staff representative, a support staff representative and a minute taker. Meetings are conducted through the medium of English.
