Job description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Freelance NVQ Assessors in Fire door inspection, Fire door installation and in wood occupations to assess and support learners working toward their vocational qualifications. The assessor will provide high‑quality coaching, assessment, and feedback in line with awarding body standards, ensuring learners progress successfully through their NVQ programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Evidence Gathering
  • Conduct valid, reliable, and fair assessments in line with NVQ standards and awarding body requirements.
  • Observe learners in the workplace or via remote methods (video calls, digital evidence platforms).
  • Support learners to build portfolios of evidence using e‑portfolio systems.
  • Judge evidence against assessment criteria and document decisions clearly.
Learner Support & Coaching
  • Provide regular guidance, support, and action plans tailored to each learner.
  • Deliver constructive feedback to improve learner performance and confidence.
  • Monitor progress and ensure timely achievement of milestones.
  • Motivate learners to stay engaged and complete their qualification.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate, auditable assessment records.
  • Participate in standardisation meetings and respond to IQA feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external quality assurance processes.
  • Follow safeguarding, data protection, and confidentiality protocols.
Communication & Coordination
  • Liaise with employers to arrange workplace observations and update them on learner progress.
  • Communicate effectively with learners, employers, and internal quality assurance teams.
  • Manage own caseload and schedule effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Recognised assessor qualification (A1, TAQA, CAVA, or equivalent).
  • Strong occupational competence in the relevant vocational area (e.g., Health & Social Care, Construction, Business Administration, etc.).
  • Experience delivering and assessing NVQs or vocational qualifications.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible workload.
  • Access to digital tools for remote assessment (laptop, internet, e‑portfolio systems).
  • Fire Door industry experience
  • Experience using platforms like OneFile, Smart Assessor, or Learning Assistant.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and End‑Point Assessment requirements.
  • Current CPD in sector and assessment practice.
