Job description

Smart CT is looking for a skilled Field Engineer ideally located in or around the Swindon through to the Exeter area to become an integral part of our dynamic Engineering Team. As a Field Engineer you will join a robust network of 60 skilled engineers spread across the UK. Your primary responsibilities will include the installation, deployment and configuration of cutting‑edge IT hardware at diverse client sites. Following a period of training, this role will require the candidate to undertake an on‑call rota, supported by 2 other on‑call engineers who operate in the Southwest region.

This role reports directly to the Engineer Supervisor.

Access to the M4 corridor leading to the Southwest of England is essential in order to meet customer SLA requirements. Key areas covered include Wiltshire, Bristol, Devon and Cornwall.

Main Responsibilities
  • Installation, maintenance and deployment of IT networking and point‑of‑sale hardware, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting – configure hardware to meet client specifications and troubleshoot any issues that arise during installation.
  • Client Interaction – work closely with clients to understand their needs, provide technical support and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Documentation – maintain accurate records of installations and client interactions to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Feedback to Service Desk, collaborating daily to provide positive solutions for customers.
  • On‑call rota which includes out of hours and weekend work.
  • Overtime will be available.
Skills and Experience
  • Technical Aptitude – strong networking and cabling experience spanning a wide range of networking technologies (inclusive of Cisco).
  • Problem Solving – ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, often under tight deadlines (SLA).
  • Excellent time keeping and punctuality.
  • Customer focused, with clear and effective communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated, with a can‑do attitude who is keen to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and unexpected challenges.
  • Team player.
  • ServiceNow experience while desirable is not essential.
  • SC clearance also desirable, but not essential.
  • Full and clean driving licence required.
