Job summary

A leading subsea technology company in Plymouth is seeking an innovative Electronics Hardware Engineer to design and develop world-class underwater acoustic systems and embedded firmware. The ideal candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in analogue and digital electronics design. Qualifications

  • Expert in analogue and digital electronics design, including simulation and low-power techniques.
  • Competent in designing for EMC and understanding standards such as EN60945.
  • Competent in C programming; basic understanding of C++.

Responsibilities

  • Designing digital and analogue electronics focused on low power consumption and low-noise performance.
  • Ensuring designs meet EMC requirements, contributing to EMC testing and compliance.
  • Producing high-quality documentation to support development and future maintenance.

Education

2:1 or above in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline

Are you an innovative Electronics Hardware Engineer with a passion for developing cutting‑edge subsea technology? Join our Electronic Hardware team and contribute to the design and development of world‑class underwater acoustic systems, data loggers, Doppler velocity logs, and more.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled engineer who thrives in a hands‑on environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

As an Electronics Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting the electronics and embedded firmware that power our subsea instruments.

If you join you will be:

Designing digital (FPGA & MPU) and analogue electronics with a focus on low power consumption and low‑noise performance

Ensuring all designs meet EMC requirements, contributing to EMC testing and compliance

Leading hardware design reviews and evaluating techniques to choose the best engineering solutions

Developing embedded C and/or C++ applications for microprocessors

Performing hands‑on electronics and embedded software fault‑finding

Producing high‑quality documentation to support development and future maintenance

Staying ahead of industry trends, tools, and technologies

Supporting continuous improvement of engineering processes

Some travel is required, including visits to our Plymouth trial site.

We’re looking for a proactive engineer with strong problem‑solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ideally we would like:
  • Expert in analogue and digital electronics design, including simulation and low‑power techniques
  • Competent in designing for EMC and understanding standards such as EN60945
  • Competent in Altium for schematic design and basic PCB layout principles
  • Competent in C programming; basic understanding of C++
  • Hands‑on fault‑finding and production support experience
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • 2:1 or above in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
Leadership & Teamwork

While this role has no direct reports, you will be expected to mentor colleagues, guide design decisions, and uphold quality standards across engineering and production support.
