An insurance claims handler helps people who have had something go wrong, reviewing customer insurance claims and ensuring they get the support they need from their policy.

Responsibilities
  • Receiving and recording new claims.
  • Reviewing claim details and gathering additional information.
  • Providing empathetic and efficient support to customers when they need us most.
  • Providing updates, answering inquiries, and addressing customer concerns.
  • Reviewing complex technical files.
  • Working with large volumes of data.
  • Collaborating with other departments.
  • Assisting in negotiations and settlements, preparing and issuing payments or denials.
What you can look forward to
  • Understand the general principles in the claims handling process.
  • Learn about various insurance products and services.
  • Develop your ability to build and manage relationships.
  • Learn the rules and regulations that claims handlers need to consider when dealing with claims.
  • Carry out initial assessments, evaluate policies and products and settle claims.
  • Understand the difference between insured and uninsured losses.
  • Be part of a large Claims function that delivers for customers and provides a clear, collaborative, and empathetic experience.
Qualification and Training
  • Alongside day-to-day work, complete a Providing Financial Services SCQF Level 6 Apprenticeship and a Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate in Insurance. The apprenticeship is around 18 months, with study time provided.
  • Right to reside and work in the UK before applying (UK sponsorship not offered).
  • A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4, including Maths and English.
  • A professional attitude with a positive, can-do approach; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Note: Apprenticeship funding rules apply.
