About us

National Gas is securing Britain\'s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the role

Play a vital role in keeping the UK\'s gas network safe, reliable, and running at its best.

Why this role matters

As a Site Controller, you\'ll be the go‑to person for safe operations on site - making sure critical national infrastructure runs smoothly.

You\'ll lead on safety decision-making and play a key role in maintaining the assets that keep energy flowing across the UK. You\'ll also work closely with construction partners to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of new assets.

This is a role for someone who enjoys responsibility, thrives in a technical environment, and wants a career with real purpose.

What you\'ll be doing

You\'ll be the safety and operational lead on site, overseeing day-to-day activities and ensuring work is carried out safely and to the highest standards. In this role, you will:

  • Manage the safe setting to work for all site activities, championing a strong safety culture
  • Authorise permission documents and complete safety/technical inspections
  • Keep accurate operational records and ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and integration of new assets
  • Contribute to emergency response and security procedures as Incident Controller or Site Main Controller
  • Monitor third-party work and protect vital plant, systems, and equipment
  • Assist with maintenance activities to improve site performance and asset reliability
  • Join the standby rota once fully trained (typically 1 week in every 4-5), responding to a range of site issues
About you

You\'re a hands‑on engineer, technician, or operative, with strong operational and maintenance experience. You take pride in safe working, enjoy problem-solving, and can stay calm and confident when working under pressure.

If you enjoy responsibility, variety, and being the person others turn to when it matters, you\'ll thrive here.

  • Strong skills in fault finding, maintenance, and technical decision‑making
  • Understanding of hazardous-area equipment and Safe Systems of Work
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, and compliance requirements for UK legislation
  • Appreciation of multidisciplinary engineering within Oil & Gas, power, chemical, or process industries
