Silcoates is a successful independent co-educational day school with a long and proud history. The school is set in 60 acres of grounds in Wrenthorpe, near Wakefield, within easy reach of the M1 and M62, offering an all-through, fully co-educational day school experience for children from 2 to 18. We achieve excellent academic results and offer a broad and stimulating variety of co-curricular activities. We are seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced teaching assistant to work as a Classroom Co-ordinator in our Junior School.
The role involves supporting the planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils across indoor and outdoor environments. The Classroom Coordinator role will involve supporting and delivering Outdoor Education across the Junior School. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Outdoor Education Lead and wider staff team to ensure that outdoor learning is inclusive, well-planned, safe and ambitious, supporting pupils’ academic, social, emotional and physical development. There may be opportunities to contribute to the ongoing management and strategic development of Outdoor Learning provision for the right candidate.
This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner, complementing our teaching staff by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities. Flexibility to work across year groups and outside is required. The successful applicant will hold a Level 3 Childcare Qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience, and be expected to play a full part in the co-curricular life of the school. A Level 3 Forest School Practitioner qualification is desirable but not essential. You should be able to demonstrate familiarity with appropriate learning strategies, for example in numeracy and literacy, and be able to develop good relationships with our children and their parents.
The role is permanent, working Monday to Wednesday from 8.30‑5.30 and Thursday and Friday 8.30‑5.00. For the right candidate a job share arrangement working fewer days each week may be considered, but it is essential that you are able to work the hours shown on those days.
Please note that we are unable to accept CVs. An application form is available on our school website.
Silcoates School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Online checks will be carried out on all shortlisted candidates, and all appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and checks regarding suitability to work with children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and DBS.
