Role Purpose
The WTG Installation Project Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering the safe and successful installation of wind turbine generators (WTGs) on offshore wind projects. The role has full accountability for schedule, cost, quality, and HSE performance for all WTG installation activities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Lead and manage all WTG installation activities, including pre-installation planning, offshore execution, commissioning interfaces, and handover.
- Develop and manage detailed installation schedules, methodologies, and execution plans.
- Ensure delivery of installation works in line with project milestones, budget, and contractual requirements.
Offshore Execution & Marine Operations
- Oversee offshore installation campaigns including vessel operations, lifting activities, SIMOPS, and weather risk management.
- Coordinate installation vessels, port operations, logistics, and supply chain interfaces.
- Ensure effective interface management with foundation, array cable, export cable, and commissioning teams.
HSE & Quality Leadership
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and marine regulations.
- Ensure installation activities are supported by approved RAMS, lift plans, and method statements.
- Promote right-first-time quality and ensure adherence to OEM and project quality standards.
Contract & Stakeholder Management
- Manage OEM, installation contractor, and marine contractor interfaces.
- Support contract administration, variation management, and claims avoidance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for WTG installation with internal stakeholders, JV partners, and the client.
Risk, Change & Performance Management
- Identify and manage installation risks, including weather, vessel availability, logistics, and interface risks.
- Lead change management processes and support resolution of technical or commercial issues.
- Monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Project Manager or Installation Manager for offshore wind WTG installation.
- Strong understanding of WTG installation methodologies, heavy lift operations, and marine logistics.
- Experience managing offshore installation vessels and installation campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex interfaces and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong leadership, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
- Project management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2).
- Experience with major OEMs (e.g. Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE).
- Experience working on large-scale offshore wind projects (>500 MW).
