The Role
We are looking to employ an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our maintenance team at the Port of Blyth. We have an array of cargo handling plant that includes FLT, Cranes & Heavy Plant that require regular servicing and repair. Previous experience of working with these types of equipment would be an advantage. Due to the nature of our business, you will need to be flexible with a can-do attitude. You will also be required to assist with the loading/unloading of cargos. Therefore, the successful candidates will be required to learn all aspects of Stevedoring including operating plant & equipment where required. This is predominantly a day shift position; however, you will be required to work shifts and weekends when necessary. Overtime will also be required to cover the needs of the business. Our business is located across four sites, so a full driving licence is essential.

The Port has taken proactive measures to promote health and wellbeing in the workplace, including transitioning to the NECA Shine employer accreditation scheme. This includes health and wellbeing campaigns and initiatives tailored to the workforce, such as NHS free health checks, free coffee van visits and free ice cream van visits, which have been well received and supported strong engagement and wellbeing across the workforce.
The Port’s dedication to health and wellness was recognised at the Maritime UK Awards 2024 with Employer of the Year and again in 2025 at the North East Business Awards as Joint Winner of the Best Place to Work for Northumberland & Tyneside.
