About the role

Joining our team as a Senior Engineering Manager places you at the forefront of advancing our technical excellence and innovation. Your closest collaborators will be the Product Manager (PM) and Designer working across your two squads. You will report to the Engineering Director of the Accounting and Integrations Group. About the teams:

The Expense Core team is the heart of Pleo, owning and operating the data and services used by almost every team. As Engineering Manager you will guide them through a complex re‑architecture that impacts all of Product Engineering. You do not need to architect, but you do need to understand the implications of software architecture and help the team get to a plan.

The Accounting Experience team owns compatibility to any accounting system or other tool in the eco‑system via our Open API and our customizable CSV export formats. Financial data is only useful to our customers if they can export it to their accounting tools, and the Accounting Experience team aims for it to work like magic.

You will be responsible for delivery and outcomes across multiple engineering squads (up to 12 engineers in total). You foster the environment in which engineers perform at their best and grow both as individuals and as a team. You do so by making sure each team member is clear on what we expect and how they can grow, by making sure our processes are helping rather than standing in the way, and by working with all engineers ensuring we are building high‑quality software.

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 2+ years experience managing teams of 5-12 engineers
  • You like to work with cross‑functional teams and other stakeholders to align engineering functions with product & business direction and goals. You think like a technologist in the core and optimize for both customers and the business.
  • Enjoy design and optimization of teams and processes to maximize their efficiency. You are comfortable stepping into technical discussions or taking important stakeholder meetings to remove roadblocks allowing the team to move forward.
  • You are a strong communicator, with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • You’re a technologist at heart. We work in cross‑functional teams in product and engineering: each team is made up of co‑founders from product and engineering - and joined by designers, coders, and maybe even some people from commercial.
