Overview
Location: Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge. Type: Full time, permanent. Start: Immediate. Salary: Competitive. Hours: 40 per week. Site/Lab Based Position (Cambridge).
This role does not meet the minimum salary requirements for UK skilled worker sponsorship. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK or must not require sponsorship for a Skilled Worker visa.
Responsibilities
- Your role in our team: Lead the manufacture of a diverse range of iPSC-derived products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and consistency. Support the effective management of the product lifecycle to deliver high-quality products to meet business and customer needs.
- Execute production runs for a range of ioCell type products and maintain high standards of laboratory techniques.
- Manage your own schedule to balance the delivery of multiple cell types to meet commercial stock goals.
- Collaborate with Product & Process Development (PPD) teams to optimise production protocols, including scale-up of culture conditions, cryopreservation, thawing & QC. Lead the transfer of new SOPs into the team as the production group representative.
- Drive validation of new cell culture systems and equipment to support expansion of manufacturing output.
- Design and execute experiments to deliver data on manufacturing consistency; present data to the team lead to inform production process improvements.
- Support junior team members with intellectual and practical guidance.
- Promote a proactive, continual improvement culture and systems to maintain high standards of service and good practice. Identify opportunities to improve operations.
- Maintain a clean and organised laboratory space and support cleaning and maintenance as required.
- Compile data from experimental work and present findings to the wider team in various forums.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to achieve project goals; proactively communicate to support effective teamwork.
Qualifications
- Hold a minimum Bachelor’s degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field of Biological Science.
- Motivated scientist demonstrating high scientific rigour, operational skill and work standards.
- Process oriented with experience developing, optimising & implementing workflows, protocols, procedures and resources in a quality management environment.
- Essential experience:
- Extensive process development experience in a relevant industry.
- Human induced pluripotent stem cell biology, characterisation and culture systems.
- Experience working with a range of iPSC-derived cell types.
- Experience in process tech transfer.
- Excellent time management, organisation and communication skills.
- Desirable experience (and not required):
- Cell phenotyping and functional end point analysis (e.g., flow cytometry, qPCR, ICC, MEA analysis).
- Expertise in continuous improvement (LEAN, 5S) and working with a quality management system.
- Experience in automation and bioreactor operation.
- Experience of working in a regulated environment to GLP, GMP or similar.
