About the role

At the heart of our work is our Global Youth Ambassador (GYA) programme, where we support a network of over 2000 incredible young education campaigners around the world.

The Project Assistant position will play a critical role in assisting the delivery and operations of this flagship programme. Sitting in the Youth Team, the successful candidate will have very strong attention to detail, exceptional organisational and time‑management skills, as well as enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to make a positive contribution to the team and our youth engagement work.

The GYA programme is a network of young campaigners (18‑30 years old) from across the world who are working together to campaign for the delivery of Sustainable Development Goal 4 – inclusive and equitable quality education for all – by 2030. The programme focuses on supporting networking and connections between GYAs, providing training and skills development, and facilitating exciting and impactful campaigning opportunities. We currently have a network of 2000 GYAs from more than 140 countries. It is the programme’s aim to ensure young people have the tools, knowledge, opportunity and inspiration to advocate for education.

This role may suit a recent graduate, or someone with at least a year of experience in administration or project coordination who is looking to build their experience in international youth programming and the NGO sector. The successful candidate will assist the Youth Team in the delivery of the programme, with a specific focus on a new Peace and Security project. The position will report to the Director of Youth Engagement. This role is based in our London office where we currently operate a hybrid schedule with several days per month in the office and the remainder of the time working remotely. This a full time fixed‑term role until 30th June 2027.

Main responsibilities
  • Assisting in the establishment, onboarding and coordination of the Peace, Security and Education Task Team, made up of Global Youth Ambassadors.
  • Assisting the Youth Team as needed in the logistical coordination of GYA events and activities (virtual and in‑person), including those for the Peace, Security and Education Task Team.
  • Interacting with young people around the world by processing their applications to join the network, onboarding new members, and assisting their participation in the programme.
  • Conducting eligibility reviews of network members.
  • Processing GYAs leaving the network when they graduate the programme.
  • Assisting the Youth Team in communicating with the network, including writing content for the newsletters and WhatsApp channel, responding to emails, and organising the dedicated GYA inbox.
  • Assisting in engaging GYAs in campaign and advocacy activities.
  • Regularly monitoring and posting on the bespoke GYA online platform, encouraging engagement from the GYAs.
  • Assisting the Youth Team to any safeguarding issues affecting our GYAs (in close collaboration and under overall guidance of our Safeguarding Lead).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Experience, skills, and character
  • Passionate about ending the global education crisis and the role that young people can play in making quality education for all a reality.
  • Strong eye for detail and a high standard of demonstrable organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent time‑management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks while navigating long‑term timelines.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding when interacting with a diverse audience.
  • The ability to get to grips with new information and processes quickly, following guidance and instruction in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, and generally to have a high bar for quality in your own work as well as your colleagues.
  • A collaborative, hands‑on attitude and team player approach, with a problem‑solving, self‑starter mindset and the ability to take initiative.
  • A commitment to Theirworld’s aims and a clear understanding of the contribution that campaigning can make to achieve our mission and how it can best link with other parts of the organisation’s work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of peace and security and how these issues intersect with education is a plus.
  • An understanding and experience of inclusive approaches to working with young people, particularly internationally, is a plus.
