Acoustic & Airtightness Testing Technician
Join Our Award-Winning, 100% Employee-Owned Testing Team!
Role: Acoustic & Airtightness Testing Technician
Location: North East based, preferably between Gateshead & Darlington (with national travel)
Are you a technically-minded problem solver looking for a new challenge? We find that people who thrive in this role come from backgrounds where precision and equipment calibration are key. Whether you are a Site Engineer or Skilled Tradesperson used to construction environments, or a Live Sound/AV professional looking to translate your experience with signal chains and measurement gear into a stable career, we want to hear from you. We are looking for a motivated individual who values autonomy and technical excellence to join our building performance testing team.
The Role: Field-Based Technical Excellence
This is a dynamic, site-focused role. While a significant portion of our work is regional, we operate nationally, and you will need to travel to projects across the UK.
- Technical Testing: Setting up and calibrating precision equipment for Sound Insulation (Part E) and Air Permeability (Part L) tests, as well as environmental surveys.
- Data & Troubleshooting: Finding the "why" behind a test result. You’ll use your technical intuition to identify air leaks or sound bridges on-site.
- Testing in Occupied Properties: We perform both construction site and investigative testing in people's homes and offices. This requires a professional, respectful manner and the ability to work efficiently around occupants.
- Reporting: While we value "straightforward reports," you will be responsible for accurately recording data and occasionally producing necessary technical reports.
- The Schedule: Most work happens during standard site hours. However, to accommodate specific site conditions or national travel, often evening and occasionally weekend work is also required. We value flexibility and ensure this is balanced across the team.
- Technical Aptitude: Experience in a technical or hands-on field. We value transferable skills—if you are comfortable with measurement gear and technical procedures, you’ll fit right in.
- Communication: Excellent spoken and written English for liaising with site managers and residents and writing clear results.
- Mobile & Independent: You must be comfortable with national travel, occasional overnight stays, and hold a full UK Driving Licence (and be comfortable driving a van).
- Attitude: Methodical, reliable, and professional. You don't necessarily need an acoustics degree—we prioritize finding the right person and will provide all necessary training.
Desirable (But we can train you!)
- Familiarity with Building Regulations (Part E / Part L).
- Experience with Sound Level Meters and/or ATTMA airtightness standards.
- CSCS card holder.
- ATTMA or Elmhurst Energy Competent Person’s Scheme Membership.
Why Join Apex Acoustics?
- Employee-Owned: You aren’t just a staff member; you are an owner. We are 100% employee-owned, which means you share in our success.
- Profit Sharing: After two years with Apex, you will be eligible for our bonus scheme, which distributes a share of profits when the company performs well—often as a tax-free payment.
- Flexible Working: We champion flexi-time to help you manage your work-life balance. We focus on results and trust our team to manage their time effectively.
- Innovative Culture: We were recently named the National Constructing Excellence SME of the Year. We avoid bureaucracy and inflexible rules in favor of practical problem-solving.
- Excellent Rewards: Competitive salary, 8% pension contribution, and free site lunches.
