A secondary academy in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking an Assistant Headteacher - English to lead the English department and drive exceptional classroom standards. With a PAN of 270 in each year group, we are a large secondary academy serving Tunstall in the north of Stoke‑on‑Trent. We are routinely over‑subscribed and the school of choice for our community. As the leading professional in English, the successful candidate will play a critical role in driving standards in the classroom so that practice is consistently exceptional. Working with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will have strategic oversight and overall accountability for all aspects of the English at the Academy. They will be accountable for outcomes and for ensuring that these are sufficiently strong over‑time so that the Academy is routinely exceeding national averages on all measures. Equally, the postholder will be accountable for the overall standards of teaching in the subject, working with the Head of Faculty, to ensure that all students get the very best lessons every day. Furthermore, the post‑holder will be accountable for the effective development, implementation and impact of a strategy to close the Foundational Knowledge Gap, focusing specifically on reading, writing and oracy.
