Job description
**Location: RG7 4PR,** located between Reading and Basingstoke, with **free onsite parking.****Package: £3****3,000 – £37,000 per annum plus role related allowance(s)** (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)We are currently looking to expand our **Criticality Safety Group** and are seeking committed, talented people who want to work in the field of nuclear criticality science and safety. We welcome applications to join our dynamic team as **Criticality Safety Assessors** from people with diverse skillsets and backgrounds and who are at any stage of their career. * Deliver criticality safety assessments to facilities in line with the programme demand and our internal company procedures.* Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality as well as professional conduct in-line with our core behaviours.* Engage and collaborate with stakeholders from technology centres, operations, project management, engineers, and conventional safety case teams.* Directly support work with nuclear material through criticality safety assessment support in a nuclear baseline role which is a key nuclear safety requirement.* Delivering criticality safety training courses to workers on site.* Undertaking facility inspections to appraise operational performance against criticality safety good practice.* Regular knowledge transfer activities and continuous professional development opportunities.* Opportunities to specialise in support for specific technology centres.* Honours Degree (or equivalent) in science, mathematics, engineering or a closely related discipline or an equivalent level of work experience.* Examples of being able to communicate technical problems, clearly and concisely, to stakeholders with technical/non-technical backgrounds.* An understanding of relevant technical topics which include nuclear physics, physics of criticality, mathematics, statistics, chemistry and metallurgy of fissile material.* Experience of demonstrating good engineering and scientific judgement with experience in using fundamental engineering and scientific skills.* Knowledge of particle transport codes - Monte Carlo and deterministic methods e.g. MONK and/or MCNP.* An understanding of the requirements placed upon fissile operations within a highly regulated industry on a nuclear licensed site.* An understanding of the nuclear regulatory framework within the UK and/or an overview of the different regulatory methods outside the UK.* Familiarity with assessment and analysis methodologies used in the field of criticality safety.The **'Working at AWE' page** on our website is where you can find full details in the **'AWE Benefits Guide'.*** We encourage you to apply promptly to avoid disappointment if applications are high and the role therefore closes.* You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
