This role is offered as a job share across two posts, usually split into two 22-hour part-time roles (38 weeks per year), together covering 44 hours across 6 days. Some flexibility is available in how the hours are split between the two postholders.

Salary: £27,737.84 per annum (based on 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year)

As our College Counsellor, this post will generally operate between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. depending upon student and staff needs.

The post holder will work as a key member of the learner services team to provide a high quality, professional and confidential counselling service to current and potential students and staff.

Responsibilities of our College Counsellor:

  • To provide a generic cross-college professional and confidential counselling service to students and staff in line with British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy Ethical Framework for Good Practice. Practice issues include abuse, loss and bereavement, mental health and wellbeing, personal stress, guidance, relationships, etc.
  • To work closely with internal and external colleagues to ensure the counselling service is well publicised and accessible to students and staff.
  • To support the development and implementation with the counselling service senior practitioner of student counselling placements within Hull College provided by external partners.
  • To support and contribute to the development of the College’s wider well‑being agenda for students and staff.
  • To liaise and network with key external partner agencies and stakeholders to ensure the needs of counselling clients are fully met, including having in place effective referral and signposting arrangements.
  • To network and liaise with key internal stakeholders across the College to ensure the counselling service is accessible and responsive to the needs of clients.
  • To maintain clinical supervision standards and expectations appropriate to needs in line with BACP Codes of Practice.
  • Reporting to the Senior Counselling Practitioner maintain accurate and up‑to‑date confidential records of service activity in line with BACP Code of Practice, and with the senior practitioner contribute to the evaluation of all work undertaken, and further development and implementation of the service to ensure a quality service is provided at all times that is responsive to the needs of clients.

What we’re looking for in our College Counsellor:

  • BACP or equivalent Counselling qualification – minimum of Diploma in Counselling with substantial practice experience.
  • Children and Adolescent counselling certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in counselling.
  • Accurate record keeping and data inputting and monitoring.
  • Have a proven understanding and commitment to the development and provision of excellent customer service.
  • Receive, store and transmit information (written, electronic, oral), and to understand and convey information which might be sensitive, and/or need careful explanation or interpretation in a timely manner.
