Job description
What we’re looking for:
  • India is the single most important market for fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials. It is also the most complex in terms of pricing, subsidy structure and policy. Through its own Department of Fertilizers, the Indian government takes a direct interest in the sector and as such, legislation around fertilizers has always been politically sensitive and integral to wider government policy.
  • We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to join our team to cover this crucial market, ideally with an understanding of the complexities of this sector and a respect for the structure of the industry. You will be responsible for the daily and weekly Indian fertilizer market coverage, covering key price points and reporting on deals/sales, tenders, government announcements and policy and any relevant market developments.
  • You will be a skilled writer and a lateral and logical thinker, driven by an interest and curiosity in market movements. You will need to demonstrate an ability to engage with contacts and develop relationships within the Indian fertilizer sector both at industry and government level. You will be a natural team player and a vital member of the Argus fertilizer editorial team, collaborating effectively with other editors and reporters across the regional hubs.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to apply and develop your skills across daily/weekly news reporting, market analysis, features and editorials in this fast‑paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity.
  • The Argus fertilizer team is truly global, with editors/reporters located in London, Asia, North America, Latin America and Russia. This provides unrivalled coverage of local markets and implications at the global level. It also offers many opportunities to travel and present papers at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions. Argus runs numerous fertilizer conferences, and the right candidate is encouraged to present and become an industry expert.
What will you be doing:
  • Work closely with London to monitor and assess the Indian market to produce daily and weekly price assessments, daily and weekly market commentaries, news and reports
  • Timely reporting on deals, tenders and market developments
  • Develop relationship with producers, traders and buyers and other key market sources, often at high level, to build mutual respect, trust and to gather market intelligence
  • Become a recognised industry expert and comfortable being the ‘face’ of Argus in India
  • Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus Media externally
  • Support the commercial team and business development to drive growth in the fertilizer editorial sector through market awareness and new initiatives
  • Maintain existing databases and build new databases for designated products.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise to other Argus departments e.g. consulting, analytics & research.
Skills and Experience:
  • At least 5 years of commodity experience preferably including price assessment
  • High degree of understanding and interest in the global commodity markets, especially those related to fertilizers
  • Proven ability to develop, source and write industry‑relevant news to deadline
  • Excellent written, grammatical and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process), and an ability to write engaging content
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to network and build contacts with industry executives and government officials
  • Effective co‑ordination and time management skills
  • A natural team player but able to work with minimum supervision when required
  • Self‑motivated, and comfortable taking the initiative and identifying opportunities when they arise
Attributes:
  • Ability to interact with non‑technical people in plain language
  • Innovative thinker with good problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Numerically proficient
  • Self‑motivated with ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines
  • Customer service focused.
