About The Role

Day Operator

Help power a sustainable future with enfinium.

At enfinium, we’re creating a cleaner tomorrow – turning non‑recyclable waste into reliable, renewable energy that powers homes and businesses across the UK.

As a Day Operator, you’ll play a key role in making that happen. You’ll be part of the Operations Team, supporting outages, providing vital day‑to‑day coverage, and ensuring the safe, efficient running of our facility.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a hands‑on, technical environment, enjoys variety, and takes pride in keeping complex systems running smoothly.

What you’ll do
  • Keep the plant running safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all HSE, environmental and operational standards.
  • Support outages and maintenance activities, working closely with the Day Team Leader and Maintenance Team to plan, coordinate and execute key tasks.
  • Operate and monitor systems such as the Distributed Control System (DCS), Turbine Control System, Emissions Monitoring and Building Management Systems.
  • Step up and lead – you may deputise for the Shift Team Leader, managing shift activities and supporting colleagues to deliver operational excellence.
  • Drive plant performance, analysing data trends and applying practical solutions to maximise reliability and efficiency.
  • Take ownership of site processes like waste offtakes (APCR, IBA, wastewater) and consumable management.
  • Contribute to improvement projects, liaising with contractors, developing scopes and managing small budgets.
  • Develop your authorisation level, becoming an Authorised Person (AP) and potentially progressing to Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
What we’re looking for

You’ll bring technical skill, a proactive mindset, and a genuine commitment to safety and teamwork.

Essential
  • NVQ Level 4 / ONC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Control room experience within a process or energy‑from‑waste environment.
  • Strong understanding of plant operations, isolation procedures and permit systems.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
Desirable
  • Experience as an Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person (LV, HV, or Mechanical).
  • IOSH Working or Managing Safely qualification.
  • Experience leading or mentoring others in a team environment.
What’s in it for you

At enfinium, you’ll join a purpose‑driven company where your work makes a real difference. You’ll also benefit from:

  • A competitive salary and overtime opportunities
  • Industry‑leading training and development – including support to gain AP/SAP status
  • Career progression across a growing national network
  • Comprehensive benefits including pension, healthcare, and wellbeing support
About Us

Who are enfinium?

As one of the UK’s leading energy from waste operators, enfinium is supporting our country’s journey to a Net Zero economy. We do this by operating and developing six decarbonisation hubs around the UK, where we use waste that would otherwise go to landfill to generate homegrown energy.

Today, enfinium has an annual waste processing capacity of over 2.3 million tonnes, and a total combined electric generating capacity of 265MW (gross) – enough energy to power more than 500,000 UK homes. enfinium is owned by infrastructure investment funds managed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners.
