Job overview

We are delighted to invite applications for 1 New Consultant colleague to join our joint teams.

The role is a new 1.0 WTE substantive full-time Consultant post working across renal and acute medicine.

In renal, the post will deliver general nephrology and chronic pots-transplant clinic in Burnley from our new John Sagar Renal Centre. They will also conduct Acute post-transplant clinics at RPH for newly repatriated patients following kidney transplant at MRI. The successful candidate will also contribute to our Renal biopsy rota at Preston.

Acute medicine will constitute approximately 50% of the direct clinical care component of this post. T his post is 10 PA’s and will be discussed and agreed, working with the successful candidate. The job plan will be discussed with Clinical Director of both departments and a mutually agreed job plan will be put in place to cover Acute medical referred patients in ED.

Main duties of the job

From an acute perspective the post will concentrate on AMU and ED in-reach and the post holder will:

  • Provide direct input into the care of patients referred to Acute Medicine.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teams and lead the co-ordination of patient care.
  • Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off-duty periods.
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
  • Develop close links with ED and General Practitioners operating in the area.
  • Exercise the freedom to develop the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.

The appointee will provide clinical and managerial leadership in running of the Acute Medicine service. The aim of this post is to enhance the quality of the service provided, to support improvements to in-house medical education and training and lead changes and quality improvement projects in acute medicine.

The Acute Medicine team is split across 2 sites—RPH and CDH, with 14 Consultants across site. The s uccessful candidate would be expected to be on call for GIM at Chorley. The role involves providing senior reviews to acute medical take at Chorley.

Qualifications
  • Full registration or eligibility for full registration with the GMC with licence to practice.
  • Hold MRCP or equivalent qualification:
  • Hold Nephrology SCE
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist register for Renal Medicine & GIM via • CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) •CESR or • European Community Right
  • Higher research qualifications. MD or PhD or equivalent.
Experience
  • Full training in Renal & GIM/ as required by the JRCPTB.
  • Recent experience of caring for renal transplant patients and advanced kidney disease clinics
  • Competent to perform peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion
  • Experience in undergraduate or postgraduate teaching
  • Experience of leading and developing care for renal patients;
  • Experience in specialist area (s) that would enhance existing LTHTR services. Competent to perform renal biopsies.
  • Trained Clinical or Educational Supervisor
