Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is offering a Clinical Trials Assistant opportunity within its Research & Development department. This is a Band 3, fixed-term (15 months) role supporting the delivery of a busy and varied portfolio of research studies.

The post-holder will work closely with colleagues to share study information, support participants through their research journey, and ensure the smooth running of studies. The Trust is one of the most research-active NHS mental health trusts, providing services across County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York, and Selby.

Role Overview

The Clinical Trials Assistant will support research colleagues in study delivery, including preparing documents, arranging appointments, collating data, and assisting with study procedures such as venepuncture and ECGs (following training). The role involves coordinating patient journeys through trial protocols and ensuring accurate documentation and data collection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in evaluating patient eligibility for clinical trials in liaison with healthcare professionals
  • Carry out venepuncture and ECGs (following training)
  • Coordinate patient journeys through trial protocols (appointments, investigations, notes)
  • Manage telephone enquiries from staff, patients, and carers
  • Collect and collate trial data in accordance with protocols
  • Prepare and maintain study documents, postal packs, and supplies
  • Identify potential study participants and circulate research opportunities
Eligibility Requirements
  • Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 or equivalent
  • Previous experience as Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised on delegated tasks
  • Understanding of confidentiality and the needs of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities
  • Experience working with people with mental/social health needs or learning disabilities
  • Experience working with data
  • Familiarity with clinical trial processes
