UWA Centre for English Language Teaching

  • Casual appointment- Full time teaching work available in peak periods Jan-March, June-August, October/December and relief and part-time teaching available other times.
  • Hourly rate: $80.77 +11% super, which includes preparation and marking.

Within the context of the University’s mission, CELT offers accredited English programs for international students wishing to develop their language skills and cultural awareness for work or study purposes. These accredited programs are Language and Communication Essentials, English for Academic Purposes and Examination Preparation and the University’s direct entry English language pathway the Academic English & Study Skills Bridging Course. CELT also designs and delivers programs customised for the needs of its international partners.

Your role

Under the direction of CELT’s Director of Studies, ELICOS, and Bridging Course Co-ordinator, and under the direction of the Customised Programs Manager and Co-ordinator for Customised Programs and Study Tours, teachers are responsible for the implementation of the Centre’s curricula through the planning, documenting, co-ordinating and monitoring of the delivery of English language programs to international students.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will need to meet minimum qualifications of:

  • Degree and CELTA /Diploma of Education TESOL.
  • Equivalent TESOL qualifications considered but must include a practical component of minimum 6 hours supervised and assessed by a qualified teacher in an English Language context, to actual learners of English.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • High level of English language competence, including ability to teach language skills, grammar, lexis and pronunciation.
  • Experience in delivering current approaches to programming, assessment and delivery of English language teaching, including digital competence and experience using LMS. Experience in teaching Academic English desirable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently conduct administrative tasks and follow-up on compliance requirements.

Note: A current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check is a requirement of this position.
