Our office is a vibrant place to work, and we offer flexibility of office/homeworking due to our hybrid model.**About the role**In your role as Business Manager - Risk, Compliance & Funding, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity toprovide strategic and operational support to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in fulfilling their responsibilities as Head of Group Risk, Compliance and Funding. The role will work collaboratively across key risk teams, including Enterprise and Operational Risk, Information Security, Compliance, Financial Risk and Funding & Valuation - to ensure effective delivery of risk management objectives, enhance governance, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of delivery of the risk framework across the Group.As a trusted part of the Group Risk and Funding team you will be responsible for: The key responsibilities are listed below: **CRO Support:*** Support the USS CRO in all aspects of their role including running a department of c60 people across both USS and USSIM.* Work effectively alongside the CRO’s EA (who manages the CRO’s inbox, diary and travel arrangements) to effectively manage the CRO’s incoming requests and actions, agreeing and effecting necessary actions as agreed with the CRO.* Track the governance forums that the CRO’s team needs to engage with to ensure that there is a clear plan for delivery and review of all papers from the CRO function. Liaise with relevant team members/SMEs to ensure that they are aware of, and meeting, relevant deadlines etc. To review papers from the CRO’s function to ensure that they are of a high-quality, are free of typographical errors and comply with internal board/committee paper requirements.* On an ad-hoc basis, assist the CRO by either getting involved in and/or leading specific initiatives, as required, to ensure effective delivery.* Represent the CRO on various internal management committees and forums as required.* Support the CRO in considering exec succession for their team in conjunction with HR. To also support on headcount planning* Support the CRO with external engagements they are attending on behalf of USS e.g. by liaising with the Corp Affairs team to ensure he has appropriate briefings, slides etc* Support the CRO in creation, completion and evidencing of departmental objectives**Risk Governance*** Management of the RRAC (Remuneration Risk-Adjustment and Accountability Committee) – a committee of control function heads reporting to the Remuneration Committees on conduct and risk issues. This includes gathering data and preparing papers.**Finance support*** Working closely with Finance Business Partner to help co-ordinate the business planning process, organizing CRO departmental reviews and supporting strategic planning. This includes responsibility for coordinating definition of strategic priorities and KPIs, and coordination of oversight of these throughout the year.**Risk team infrastructure*** Work with the HR team and CRO to develop the people strategy for the CRO’s function.* Identify areas for continued process improvement and enhance efficiencies by generating innovative ideas and solutions.* Enhance MI reporting from each of the teams within the CRO function.* Assist in the preparation and analysis of internal team risks registers and self-assessments.* Work closely with each of the Head of Information Security, Head of Enterprise and Operational Risk, Head of Compliance, USSIM Head of Financial Risk and Director of Valuation and Funding to ensure consistent prioritization and approach to key initiatives.* Support the CRO in the effective management of their department. To include:o Support CRO in their management of their function o Supporting on leadership development for CRO team (e.g. by developing content for offsites) o Ensuring that there is appropriate communication and cascade of key messages and team priorities o Reviewing and updating team management processes to ensure that they are effective and drive a positive team culture o Supporting on Regulatory Returns etc o Ensuring that there are clear leadership processes in place, eg 1-2-1s and appraisals, across the function o Reporting, tracking team KPIs etc o Headcount planningWe know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box, if you're excited about working for us and have most of the skills or experience we're looking for, then please apply, regardless of whether you meet all the requirements outlined in this profile.
