Bid Director

Location: Birmingham Parklands Office / Mobile

Department: 14forty Growth

Overall Purpose of the Role: Lead strategic bid management and solution design for large‑scale Hard FM and TFM opportunities. Drive commercial strategy, compliance, and innovation to secure major contracts. Ensure integration of engineering standards (SFG20, CIBSE Guide M), lifecycle costing, and risk frameworks (Green Book). Champion best practice in bid governance (APMP) and FM standards (ISO 41001, ISO 55001).

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & bid management – Own bid strategy and solution architecture for Hard FM services, ensuring technical and commercial robustness.
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary teams through APMP‑based bid lifecycle (capture, proposal, negotiation).
  • Integrate compliance with statutory maintenance (SFG20) and engineering guidance (CIBSE Guide M).
  • Shape commercial models including lifecycle, TUPE, risk, and performance regimes.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders and clients to influence and secure strategic wins.
  • Embed governance and ISO 55001 asset management principles in solutions.
  • Ensure all bids are compliant, compelling, and aligned with company commercial and operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Legal, and Operations to develop tailored, competitive proposals.
  • Own and continuously improve the bid process playbook, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and quality control.
  • Maintain accurate records of bid activity, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure adherence to sales methodology and governance frameworks.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and client feedback to inform bid strategies.
  • Share insights with the wider Growth team to support strategic planning and innovation.
  • Utilise market knowledge to support client proposition development and improvement.
Key Relationships
  • Sales Director – Strategic alignment and performance reporting, with particular emphasis on wins and loss analysis to improve performance.
  • Creative Lab – Content development and improved case studies and evidence.
  • Supply Chain / Commercial – Foster collaborative relationships with nominated suppliers to support holistic models. Identify gaps in supply chain and opportunities for improvement and highlight these to the business.
  • Operations – Maintain a strong working relationship with operational teams and subject matter experts, drawing on their experience to contribute towards winning and compelling bids.
Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Proven track record of leading and winning major Hard FM / TFM bids.
    • Ability to balance changing needs and flex to meet client prescribed deadlines.
    • Deep understanding of engineering maintenance standards (SFG20, CIBSE Guide M).
    • Strong commercial acumen and contract experience.
    • Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Knowledge ISO 55001 frameworks.
    • Proficient in a range of IT based systems (Office, InDesign, Adobe etc.).
    • Ability to support content creation, updating literature and library development.
    • Integrates with SME functions to support operational development of delivery models.
    • Financial literacy and ability to challenge cost models and risk assumptions.
  • Desirable:
    • IWFM Level 6/7 qualification.
    • APMP Practitioner or equivalent bid management certification.
    • Proven capability in supporting presentation and negotiation stages of successful bids.
