Empowering Lives, Building Futures!

de novo care is a small, nurturing residential childcare organisation providing safe, stable and therapeutic homes for children and young people who have experienced adversity. We currently operate two Ofsted-registered homes—one on the outskirts of Taunton and one near Wellington—and we are proud of the warm, structured, and child-centred environments we provide.

We are now looking to expand our bank team to support both homes with planned and unplanned cover. This role is open only to applicants who already hold a Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

This position is ideal for qualified workers seeking flexible hours or those wanting to maintain experience in children’s residential care alongside other commitments. There may also be future opportunities to progress into permanent roles as the organisation continues to grow.

What the role involves

As a Bank Residential Childcare Worker, you will:

  • Provide care, guidance and positive routines for children and young people
  • Build strong, trusting relationships through consistent and nurturing practice
  • Support children to manage emotions, develop independence and achieve their goals
  • Use trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches at all times
  • Help create a homely, safe and structured environment
  • Record daily observations, incidents and care plans on our digital system (ClearCare)
  • Support with activities, education, appointments and day-to-day home routines
  • Work as part of a committed team, following policies and care plans consistently
What we’re looking for
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people

  • Emotional resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A willingness to learn trauma-informed practice and behaviour support
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential due to our rural locations)
What we offer
  • Competitive hourly pay £13.00 to13.50
  • A supportive, open and honest team culture
  • Full induction, mentoring and high-quality training (including trauma & attachment, safeguarding, RPI, behaviour support, and more)
  • Opportunities to progress into permanent contracted roles

At de novo care, we’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Young People. Applicants must be willing to undergo appropriate child protection screening, including employment references and enhanced DBS checks.
