Band 8d Deputy Director of Informatics (Clinical Systems)

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Deputy Director of Informatics (Clinical Systems) to lead the strategic development and delivery of our clinical systems portfolio. The role will oversee the deployment, optimisation and performance of key systems such as Millennium, Sectra, WinPath and EMIS, ensuring programmes are delivered on time, on budget and with measurable benefits for patients and staff.

In this senior leadership role you will provide expert leadership to a multidisciplinary informatics team, manage significant budgets and resources and represent Informatics at senior governance forums. You will work closely with clinical, operational and executive stakeholders to drive interoperability, digital maturity and continuous improvement across the Trust and the wider health community.

Main duties of the job

To promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to aid and improve health and health care delivery.

To ensure the Trust has cost‑effective systems, information and technology services needed to provide excellent clinical care to its patients, in conjunction with wider partners.

Accountable for the smooth running of clinical applications and integration of systems across the Trust.

Responsible for delivering results that achieve the benefits defined in the programme business case.

Strategic development of electronic record services and clinical technology; capturing and reviewing requirements for inclusion in delivery programmes.

Daily responsibilities include providing routine status reports, updating project board meetings and steering committees, delivering agreed informatics strategy jointly with ICT and Information teams, owning significant budget allocation, operational leadership, staffing demands and ensuring a suitable team of experts is available for safe operational delivery of clinical systems.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree or equivalent within an Informatics related discipline (Master’s desirable).
  • 5 years’ experience in a senior Informatics role within the NHS or private sector organisation.
  • Clinical background.
  • Understanding of non‑hospital NHS Informatics trends and suppliers.
  • Substantial senior management experience in NHS Informatics or a comparable healthcare setting.
  • Strong track record of delivering large‑scale clinical systems programmes.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Passion for digital innovation, equality and high‑quality patient care.
