Job description

As a Trainee Chartered Accountant, your typical daily duties will include;

  • Show commitment to training, college and keeping up to date with the training materials and step ladders required by the study provider, including webinars;
  • Study towards completing the certificate and professional level exams in line with the UHY exam timetable;
  • Checking a client’s financial information, purchase and sales invoices;
  • Checking bank balances and bank statements;
  • Reviewing client payroll records for accuracy;
  • Ensure sound knowledge of a client and its industry by researching background information and useful publications;
  • Develop communication skills and build relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Develop and apply technical knowledge gained from studies and on the job experience;
  • Attend in-house technical training as required;
  • Ensure timesheets are completed on a weekly basis.
Working arrangements

The working week: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday) to be worked from 08:30-17:00 with flexibility of hours to meet specific work demands.

Location: Your principle work based is our Newport Office. However, you will be required to spend time working at client premises and studying for your professional examinations.

Training

The firm provides full support, study leave and tuition costs, for the first attempts at all the exams and assessments that go towards the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) qualification. With first time passes, it takes three years to complete your studies. Tuition is given by one of the leading external providers.

Person specifications – Desirable experience and skills
Academic requirements
  • 2:1 Degree or above;
  • Minimum A-levels, B,B,C grades (or equivalent and excluding general studies);
  • Grade B or above in GSCE Maths and English Language (GSCE or equivalent).
  • Be approachable to members of the audit team;
  • Be responsive to the audit senior and managers requests whilst on assignments;
  • Engage in client meetings and social activities.
Client service
  • Maintain objectivity, professionalism an independence in client relationship.
Team player
  • Be an integral member of the audit group by participating in group activities.
