Assistant City Attorney – Municipal Prosecutor – Camden City

The Camden City Attorney’s Office is seeking an Assistant City Attorney to join our team. The municipal law portfolio covers a wide variety of practice areas, and as a member of our team you can expect to handle multiple legal matters simultaneously.

  • Serve as a Municipal Prosecutor in Municipal Court.
  • Provide legal representation to the City in judiciary and administrative proceedings, including trial and appellate work.
  • Prepare pleadings and participate in case preparation for litigation, coordinate with outside counsel, and negotiate settlements.
  • Advise City officials and agencies regarding government contracting, commercial contracting, municipal law, and related topics.
  • Negotiate transactions and draft contracts.
  • Draft and interpret City ordinances, rules and regulations, and charter requirements.
  • Conduct and/or supervise legal research.
  • Assist other attorneys in specialized areas with research and related activities.
  • Prepare timely and appropriate responses to inquiries from the general public about public information and municipal regulations and procedures.
  • Facilitate major property acquisitions for City projects, including title work, document preparation, and condemnations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills: Persuasive oral and written communicator; meticulous legal researcher; detail oriented; proficient in a fast‑paced environment working on multiple tasks; exceptional organizer with the ability to manage a high caseload with limited support staff.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree from an ABA‑accredited law school.
  • Admitted in good standing to practice law in the State of New Jersey or able to obtain admittance within one year.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in municipal law, tort litigation, criminal prosecution, or complex transactional law.
  • Preferred 5–7 years of experience in municipal law, tort litigation, criminal prosecution, or complex transactional law.
  • Significant trial experience in New Jersey is a plus.

Salary Range: $60,000 – $110,000.
