Job summary

A healthcare products company in Rhymney is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to support finance functions within the FMCG healthcare sector. You will manage month-end processes, assist in budget preparation, and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards. The ideal candidate will have AAT Level 4 or be Part-Qualified ACCA/CIMA along with experience in ERP systems like SAP. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to develop skills across the finance function.

Primary Care UK employs approximately 200 people across two purpose-built facilities, one in Telford, West Midlands England and one in Rhymney, South Wales.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a highly capable Assistant Accountant to support the finance function for an FMCG business within the health care industry. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for the month-end management accounts process and supporting the FC with financial reporting, audit preparation, balance sheet control and Budgeting.

This role is ideal for a Part-Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA) looking to broaden their exposure across a full finance function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly management accounts including journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Assist with production of the monthly KPI and financial performance packs.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide insightful commentary to the FC and budget holders.
  • Support forecasting and annual budgeting processes.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations with clear audit trails and timely resolution of issues.
  • Support stock accounting processes, GRNI analysis and margin reporting.
  • Assist with group reporting and consolidation submissions.
  • Provide support with VAT, corporation tax data and treasury tasks as required.
Audit & Statutory Accounts
  • Prepare audit working papers and respond to auditor queries.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end schedules.
Process Improvement
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, RPA activity and SAP optimisation.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
  • Provide occasional cover across AP/AR and wider finance as needed.
  • Skills, Experience & Qualifications
    • AAT Level 4 or Part-Qualified ACCA/CIMA (or actively studying).
    • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred but not essential).
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.
    • High attention to detail with excellent organisation and time-management skills.
    • Confident communicator with the ability to work with stakeholders across the business.
    • Proactive, problem-solving mindset with the desire to learn and progress.
