Alternative Risk Senior Underwriter – London based, Hybrid working. This role suits someone with a proven track record of underwriting, analysis, sales and business development at a senior level and/or experience in analysing portfolios in a Pricing or Actuarial capacity.

About the Team/Division: Alternative Risk forms an exciting part of the London Market Division. The portfolio seeks to delegate authority in lines of business that are often not traditional in nature, with a creative mindset needed to get a deal done. The key to our success is taking calculated risk and building strong relationships across the market to optimise our exposure and result. This is a high-expectation role with the opportunity to be a key member of a significant line of business within London Market.

The Opportunity

This role suits someone who has a proven track record of underwriting, analysis, sales and business development at a senior level and/or experience in analysing portfolios in a Pricing or Actuarial capacity.

The successful candidate will join a team of underwriters alongside Pricing, Claims and Operations, focusing on maximising the return from our coverholder portfolio. This is an opportunity to become a senior underwriting leader and help drive and shape the account going forward. What You’ll Be Doing In The Role

The key to success in this role will be a detailed underwriting approach, a strong analytical mindset and unparalleled relationship-building skills. You will need to thrive on relationship management as well as underwriting and analytics, and be able to demonstrate an ability to work with senior brokers/coverholders and to analyse a portfolio. You will need to be adaptable, agile and knowledgeable about underwriting, able to identify opportunities and take them from concept to reality. You will also need to be highly capable with data and analytics, able to focus on what’s important and find new ways to approach problems. Experience working with external reinsurance partners would be advantageous.

• Analysis and underwriting of binding authority contracts and coverholders in both lead and follow positions, across multiple classes/lines of business on a worldwide basis.
• Lead and develop close relationships with partner brokers to generate profitable opportunities and deals for the Alternative Risk portfolio.
• Drive the development of underwriting appetite to refine portfolio strategy, including analysing new and emerging market areas.
• Work closely with pricing actuaries on coverholders to monitor and control performance and refine underwriting strategy.
• Conduct market and industry research and analyse large data sets across multiple markets and geographies.
• Meetings may take place outside of the Lloyd’s building.

The Candidate

• A proven track record and strong reputation in underwriting, analysis, sales and business development at a senior level and/or experience in analysing portfolios in a pricing or actuarial capacity.
• Technical underwriting ability to analyse a binder and craft it for success.
• Multi-class experience would be looked upon favourably.
• Excellent relationship management skills and a drive to make the portfolio highly profitable.
• Decisive with good judgement and accountability.
• Strong communication skills; comfortable with clients, industry leaders, and internal teams.
• Driven and eager to learn within the role.
• Willingness to travel internationally as required and attend evening business events as appropriate.
• Degree educated or equivalent; progress in ACII (or equivalent) examinations or commitment to complete them.
